A file-breaking total of more than 5,000 alumni and chums attended this year’s MIT Tech Reunions, held on-line June 4–6. There were special events for reunion-year classes, and the total MIT neighborhood became invited to search for the net Tech Evening at Pops, be taught from college in the course of Technology Day, and catch virtual campus excursions.
Symphony Hall at home
For the reason that 123rd annual Tech Evening at Pops became held nearly, there became no restrict to the amount of alumni and company who can also again, and each person got a front-row seat. Conducted in an empty Symphony Hall by Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops Orchestra done a program custom-made for the occasion, with Institute favorites adore “Come up All Ye of MIT” and a 50th-reunion tribute to the Class of 1971 with tunes from Three Dogs Evening and Carole King. The evening also included classical pieces equivalent to the first breeze of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto—that comprises soloist William Wang, an MIT PhD candidate and music student in MIT’s conservatory-level Emerson Program, in his first efficiency with a talented orchestra. In step with custom, the published ended with “Stars and Stripes Eternally” and a (virtual) balloon drop. For the period of the efficiency, alumni and company lit up the chat with greetings and recollections from across the area:
