A fresh U.S. coin honoring Christa McAuliffe, NASA’s first “Trainer in House,” will relief continue her academic mission 35 years after she and her six astronaut crewmates were tragically lost in flight.

McAuliffe’s crewmates integrated commander Francis “Dick” Scobee, pilot Michael Smith, mission specialists Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik and Ronald McNair and payload specialist Gregory Jarvis.

The seven STS-51L astronauts are represented on the fresh silver dollar as seven stars on the reverse, or tail’s aspect, of the coin.

Either aspect of the commemorative depict McAuliffe: in profile on the obverse (or head’s aspect) in response to a NASA photo taken while she modified into practising for the sick-fated mission, and in the study room with her motto, “I contact the future.
